How long for biopsy results ?

I had an endoscopy nine weeks ago, and two lots of biopsies were taken from different parts of my digestive system. I was told at the time that the system was running bit slow and the results could take up to six weeks.
They still aren't back after 9 weeks - I'm starting to wonder if they've lost them. I've been phoningt the GP for results (as I was told to do) but wonder if it might be better to phone the hospital ?

The conditions I am being tested for (one of which I quite likely have) are potentially serious if untreated and I am feeling quite unwell at the moment. I intially went to the doctor about the problems I was having in April so am worried that I am going untreated. If the biposies are clear then i will need more tests to find out what is causing my symptoms and it could be various things some of which would be serious.

Having had cancer a few years, I am getting a bit antsy about the delay here - is it a normal amount of time to wait nowadays ? I;ve alwasy had biopsy results within two or three weeks before.

Hi Kurri. Sorry you’re still waiting for the results. I hope they’re not lost! Do you still have any contact with a BCN? My colorectal cancer nurse has been helpful at chasing things up even if not her department. It might be worth phoning the hospital otherwise - maybe try the secretary of whoever did the endoscopy? Fingers crossed you hear back soon Flowers

Phone the consultants secretary to chase up - Gould luck

No contact with BCN any more Leslie - and this procedure was at a different hospital than the one where I had my cancer treatment.

I think phoning the Consultants secretary is the way forward thank you (and to Flumpy Smile )

My husband has been told his biopsy results will be really quick - his biopsy is on the Tuesday and the clinical team will discuss them on the Thursday then ring him that afternoon. I don't know if that's normal or not though, we have nothing to compare it to.

Thank you gretchen, I think that can often be the case - they can sometimes test virtually on the spot. Sending good wishes to you DH for his results.
