How often can you give calpol to a four month old?

Ds has a really bad cold and the beginnings of a cough. He has a raised temperature but hasn't got a temperature. He is only taking really short naps and therefore by evening he is beside himself. yesterday I gave hime 2.5 mls of calpol most of which he spat out. Just wondering whether I should be giving him it a bit more regularly for it to be of any benefit. From the instructions on the bottle it looks like only 2 doses a day.

You have to follow the instructions really as far as the dose and his age go. Did you give him the calpol with a syringe? If you gently project it as far down his throat as you can (sounds horrible but hopefully you know what i mean) he might keep more down, then give him a drink straight after to help it go down.

Thanks, I did use a syringe but don't think I got it far enough in. I 'll reread the instructions, im sure it said 1 2.5 ml then another 4 to 6 hours later. I just want to time it right. I don't remember using it with dd when she was so young.

so if you give 2.5ml every 4 hours while his cold's at its worst you'll get at least 4 doses down over 24 hours, which should help. When you use the syringe I've found it useful to do it when the baby is lying on its back and inject it to the back of one of their cheeks so they don't choke on it and it just gets swallowed, if that helps.

sorry the maths doesn't work out there! but I think the instructions say the dose should not exceed a certain level too, so 4 over 24hrs sounds about right.

Thanks, i'm reading it as only 2 doses in 24 hours but his temperature is dropping so it might be hypothtical anyway
