Toothache

Hiya,

I have had quite a bad toothache over the weekend. The pain is suddenly there and then it stops, some moments it gets worse, then its fine especially at night. I am seeing the dentist first thing tomorrow.

I don't think it's an abscess - no swelling, no funny taste in my mouth etc.It just on and off very sensitive.

My question is would they automatically put me on antibiotics with a general tooth ache, or if it's just a broken filling or a hole, for example?

Thanks.

I don't think you would get antibiotics at all - even with an abscess the dentist would usually clean it out and put a dressing inside the tooth to settle it down.

The dentist will assess your tooth and explain why it is paining, he or she might clean out your tooth and apply a temp filling if this is the case and might give you antibiotics.
