Why would my period come a week early!?

That is it really. Not due till next Weds/Thursday and af has arrived today. Started spotting last night and now have brown discharge (sorry tmi) like the start of af. Feeling sick for past twoo days so guessing I am having a hormone surge??

I am 40 - cycle length has been getting longer over past 6 months and now this! So gone from 33 days to 36 and now this would be 28 days...

Are you taking any medication? This happened when I was on steroids for my asthma.

No but I have been given some t.... acid to reduce my heavy periods. Haven't used it yet as this is first af since visit to doc. Is this a symptom of fibroids as she is sending me for a scan for this?

I am also 40 and went to docs recently with AF problems. Although my probs were not related to cycle length she did say that shorter/longer gaps between periods can be a sign of the perimenopause, the time before menopause when body experiences hormonal changes , so might be that? Don't know anything about fibroids,sorry!

I'm 44 and this started happening to me . For years I was about 33 days then after children it went down to 28 days. Then in the last year I have had 31 days followed by 2 lots 24 days.
Been to see a gyneacologist as I am also having very painful periods and fairly heavy and says it's my age and I am pre menopausal.I am on menphemic acid and duphaston which you can only take for 6 months.
I had a scan and was told that I have some very small endometrial cysts on my ovaries

She wants me to have the mirena coil, but I am not happy about the idea
