chickenpox in nappy - infection?

Sorry to start another chicken pox thread! The farking things are driving me mad.

DS' first spot was just under his belly, where his nappy is (if that makes sense?!) It was a fairly big blister and he scratched it and popped it, then he scratched it some more.

Today it looks sore. The 'scab is kind of pale yellow colour and not dried, being in his nappy, and there is a red patch about a cm wide around the spot. Does that sound like it might be infected?

Tonight I've put some savlon cream and a sterile gauze over it - is that a good idea? Should I take him to the doc in the morning?

Yes it does sound infected.
my dd2 had it very bad recently and her's went like this and she was given Co-moxiclav.
Hope your ds is better soon.

Good luck.

You could try a nappy-rash cream. They are really good at being slightly antiseptic and not making it too damp (which imo savlon always does)

I did think about putting sudocrem on before I thought about the savlon - would have prob been better - esp under the dressing thing. Bugger. I bloody hate this chicken pox game!

but at least it'll be out of the way now. It doesn't last for long either.

zephyrcat · 04/04/2007 22:23

Does it not last long? It feels like forever!!

I've got the 2 dd's to catch it yet as well!

my dd had it about a month ago. She was basically fine (just a bit grumpy) and bored 'cos she couldn't go to nursery for almost a week.
ds was similar when he had it too.
