Poor weight gain in an 11 month old.

DS is almost 11 months old. He has dropped from the 50th percentile from the last time I had him weighed (before christmas) to the 30th percentile. He is very active, has been crawling since 5 months. He seems to eat OK, I am mostly BLW and a lot does end up on the floor. He has had what seems to be a 'tummy bug' for the past week. But generally poos (3 x daily) quite a lot anyway. I am wondering whether he might be lactose intolerant as we lots of trouble finding a suitable formula, because he kept throwing up. Ended up with Cow and Gate Comfortable Digestion' which he usually OK on, seems to be OK on youghurts etc, but still gets a bit sicky from time to time. I am going to take him to GP tomorrow, anyone have any ideas?

Don't underestimate teh effect of a tummy bug on their weight. DS has had a bug for just three days and he looks as though he's lost a fair bit of weight in that short time. Ask the GP about lactose intolerance but if he's OK on yogurt, I would have thought that it's unlikely.

anyone else?

Agree with CorrieDale - don't underestimate the effect of ilness particularly tummy bugs. DS is 10 months and since Christmas has had 2 tummy bugs and chicken pox. He had gained a grand total of 5oz since November. Now he weighs the same as then so has actually lost a little. But he's ok, fortunately he had enough to burn. And when it coincides with them getting more mobile they seem to really slim down. Does he seem happy and healthy in himself? If so I wouldn't worry but I guess there's no harm in having a chat with the GP to put your mind at rest.

I wouldn't worry unless he doesn't seem himself. Ds2 has dropped from 99.8th to 25th, via the 2nd - he's now 11 months and weighs about 19lb, having been born at 10lb2. If he's active then he's probably fine. They do slim down once they're on the move.

Oh, OK. I saw the GP today, he said if he dropped below the 25th percentile he would be referred to a paediatrician. I am concerned though, episodes of dirrehra and poo explosions seem to be happening more often than
I would expect. It is not uncommon for him to have three -four dirty nappies in a day.

Ds also produces 3-4 dirty nappies a day. He eats a lot of fruit and veg and has a generally healthy diet and I put his active bowels down to that (was also blw BTW). Get him weighed in a month if you're still worried but I would never recommend getting him weighed soon after a bug. Ds shot down the centiles from about 4 months and although he now (21 mo) eats a LOT more than his peers, he remains very slim. If I were to get him weighed after this bug we'd be haunted by paediatricians for the next year!
