Why do some colds make you feel so poorly?

I think in have posted about this before!
Almost every time I get a cold, it's accompanied by a horrible pressure along the front of my face, nausea and a slight upset tummy. I also just feel absolutely wiped up - just going upstairs is such an effort. I get the usual symptoms too. Scratchy sore throat, blocked runny nose, hot and cold. It passes really quickly (usually) and I have tried sudafed as I seem prone to sinus infections.
I'm in the middle of one of these colds now and I have been taken regular ibuprofen and paracetamol. Anything else I can do? Willing to try anything at this point to stop them being so bad!

I wonder if the pain relief is causing the tummy upset? Try not taking it for a day or two as too much can really harm you and I don't think either tablet will do much for your symptoms. Instead try maybe otrivine for your nose and lem sip or similar? Hope you feel better soon

Oh and find a really good masseuse or learn online how to massage your sinuses - you can unclog them yourself with the right pressure in the right places - works wonders

I get hit down big time with colds too op. I posted about it before and we found some other weird correlations that I can't remember now.

How can I find what my old threads were if I've name changed?

Feel better soon. I get colds that are just vile - usually ill for a week, then the cough lingers. I have always been like this since childhood, to the point that my parents worried I had something wrong which was causing a compromised immune system - I had a load of tests done, and don't. I am always amazed when someone at work says they feel awful and have the cold, yet look/sound like a normal person, whereas I look like I've been repeatedly punched in the face and sound like Darth Vader.

I'm going through this too. Get a cold - turns into something overwhelming , off work for a week, hauling myself upstairs, can barely function - then two weeks of feeling awful. Twice or three times a year. It's not normal. Colds for me are never sore throat, runny nose, bit of a cough - they are completely debilitating.

I've also thought I had a more serious underlying condition so I've seen an immunologist and an ENT dr but they've said there's nothing wrong. It's definitely not normal though so I'm now seeing a holistic dr who is focusing on inflammation, viral load and adrenals first. Will report back if I get anywhere. Would love to know if anyone else has found any solutions.

Thanks for all the replies. I am over the worst now, but left with really painful sinuses. Whenever I breathe through my nose I get sharp pain across my face and my teeth are aching. Last time I had this I was convinced there was something wrong and the dentist did an X-ray and said my sinuses run close to my tooth roots. So I think it is sinuses. I have tried fresh air, steam, paracetamol, Vicks. Nothing works! Sudafed provides relief but when I stop using it it comes straight back. I absolutely hate these colds! It's a bit of a first world problem but if anyone has any solutions please let me know!
