Medical Records from Childhood?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this! NC btw.

I had an abusive childhood and something happened that I have blocked out. I have a vague memory of getting a pelvic/vaginal? infection at an age of around 7/8 and a few nightmares have pointed to something happening around this time. I was wondering if I could request medical records from this time or if they will still exist? I lived in another part of the UK back then so I'm not sure if records would still be around. Is there any way I can find out?

How old are you? A friend requested his medical records and there were some handwritten records and notes going back to the the late sixties/early seventies but his childhood records were definitely not complete.

Do you think it was a GP that saw you at the time? If so, it should be in your current notes which you can request copies of.

When our GP rolled out online appointment making, they included access to medical records.

I can see every appointment I've ever had, from vaccinations at weeks old, to pregnancy in my 30s.

I'm sure your surgery can do the same.

I'm mid 40's and I was away at school during this time. I've no idea who the doctor would have been and the school isn't there anymore.

If you are currently registered with an NHS GP, they might have a packet of paper notes that have accumulated since you were a child. When you register at a practice, you are asked to name your previous doctor. The new practice then contacts the old one and asks them to forward any records. There can be very old stuff in there.

Thanks everyone, I'll give it a go.

I have my medical records, but sadly they don’t start until I was fifteen, so the important events of my childhood are missing completely, as are the years between 17 and 23. Very disappointing.

My records have my tonsil removal at the age of 4, but not the more major surgery I had at 17.
So it's worth asking, but no guarantees.

@Phosphorus if you've changed trusts you sometimes only get them from when you changed onwards.
