Smear after colposcopy

Hi,

I had a smear last August which came back as borderline changes and HPV. I went for colposcopy and thankfully all was fine and no treatment needed.

I was put on yearly smears and now I've had my appointment come through for the first smear after the colposcopy. I found this whole thing so very stressful last year and now I'm really scared of the whole process again. Does anyone have any experience of everything going back to normal when recalled a year later? Or are the borderline changes likely to have got worse? Is it likely the HPV will be gone or still causing issues?

I know no one can tell me what the case will be with me, I'm just looking for other people's experiences.

Thanks!

Hiya, didn't want to pass this one but also feel cruel in what im about to tell you.

If you're relatively healthy I think the results will be fine.

I was same, ended up having CIN2. Cells were removed with cold coagulation and it was honestly fine. I haven't had a baby and seriously the pain for me was less than a period. My immune system is low due to autoimmune disease hence cin2 and it developed very quickly.

Anyway had that done. Smear 6 months later was abnormal again...CIN1 had to have loop excision. Results came back saying all removed.

Put on 6 monthly smears.

I know a lot of people that it went away again. It is really common aswell which I didn't realise. I just know what you're going through and honestly it will be ok. Its good you're under their radar.

Good luck xxx

I had an abnormal smear then a colposcopy when pregnant. Colposcopy was normal and I went for my return smear 12 weeks after baby was born which was normal. They still want to see me 6 months after but assuming that's normal I'll be back to 3 yearly.

Thank you both for sharing. I just remember how terrified I was last year. I don't think I will be quite as scared if it comes back abnormal again but I'll still have this feeling of dread until it's over.

I think I'm mostly scared that something really awful will have developed over the last year but from what I have read, that isn't very likely.

Thanks again.

Years ago I had HPV and was told that I had to have yearly smears, but often the GP or clinic would forget and say 'why are you booking a smear? You had one last year' and I would have to explain my medical history (!)

Nothing else was ever found, in my case, but be glad that you're being monitored.

I had a colposcopy and lletz last year. They found cin3 cells which they removed all of. I had a smear in may 6 months after lletz and they found hpv. I had to go for another colposcopy to check for any more abnormal cells but that was clear. Now back to yearly smears and go from there. X
