I've always had to get antibiotics and it's started feeling better about 12 hours later and completely gone 2-3 days. Without medication I don't know but would imagine longer. Drinking lots of water helps.

jemmysmum · 06/09/2017 21:52

NT sure wat the norm is but mine usually used to last a few days, although now if it lasts longer than 2 days I go to the Drs for antibiotics as I know from past experience that its not going to go away on its own.Sometimes if you take the cystitis relief sachets as soon as you feel it coming on they can nip it in the bud before it gets too bad.My sympathies it really is a miserable thing to have😞

Thank you, i have had this for a week now, mostly gone, but stings like mad when i go to the toilet still.and feel as if i havent emptied my bladder properly, a bit painful
Had 3 days antibiotics, and some potassium citrate from chemist, had to take a urine sample in today, to see if i need more antibiotics
Really fed up now

I've had it fairly regularly and the antibiotics usually sort it within 24 hours, though one time they just wasn't shifting it .When results came back from sample it turned out I needed a stronger course (but obviously they didn't know until results were back).Changed the tablets and gone within a day-relief!maybe yours is the same.

Thank you got your reply. Last night I couldn't sleep it was very painful. Felt like my bladder was going yo burst.

Id try and get an emergency appointment this morning if I were you ,especially with it being the weekend so not open again till Monday.Doesnt sound as though it going to get any better now.Its like a horrible dragging feeling isn't it!I was bent over double with back pains as well which I think meant it was getting towards kidney infection so I really would go back to the Drs.

lovemylover · 08/09/2017 09:11

I took a urine sample in yesterday waiting to see if i need stronger antibiotics,if so im hoping Dr will just fax prescription through to my chemist
I have to have an internal scan next week but i cant if this persists

Very annoyed now, rang Drs to see if results of sample was back, receptionist ,said no blood tests are, what? have had no blood tests except a month ago, which were supposed to be sent to hopspital,[Thats another story]
Anyway receptionist rang me later to sat yes Dr had urine tests back and there was a prescription for me if i could collect,
This was 6pm, they close at 6-30, i dont drive and it would have taken me longer than that to get there,
Now i have to wait until monday for my local pharmacy to collect
Why couldnt she fax it through, i could have got them this morning
As it happens now i have to have another 2 nights of this, also last night was awake on and off all night, with same problem, feeling like bladder is going to burst
I am sure people sometimes think everyone has a car
If the chemist had still been open they would have rung Drs and found out which ABs and let me have them
This was a young woman Dr, my own are brilliant, and imo she should have asked for a sample at the start

Mm not great is it.When I've been to the Drs they always take a sample on the day I go,then give normal antibiotics then as I mentioned before when results back get stronger ones if needed,so its all pretty quick.Thats why I suggested going again yesterday morning, they would have probs given you stronger ones to try anyway because of it being weekend. Are your Drs not open for a couple of hours this morning jst so you can pick up your prescription ,ours do on a sat up till 11 I think.

Chocoholic26 · 09/09/2017 10:20

Oh it's the worst feeling, I can really sympathise with you. I've had it a lot and on occasions a different type of bacteria has required a different antibiotic so that's probably why the first lot aren't shifting it. Really frustrating that you couldn't get your prescription. If you don't think you can last until Monday, is there anyway you could get to out of hours? Phone NHS24 and they will be able to sort you out. A bit annoying having to take a trip to a&e but would be worth it for some relief. Xx

lovemylover · 09/09/2017 11:17

No my Drs are shut on a saturday morning, i thought they were usually open for a couple of hours, they used to be
A&E is very close to me, closer than Drs in fact, but i will just wait until monday now
I did ask if it was too late for the Dr to send by fax, receptionist said yes, but am going to check at chemist this morning, just in case receptionist mentioned it to Dr, as there was still 30 minutes left of surgery
Its ok during the day, except it irritates when im walking,
My daughter doesnt think its cystitis, she had something similiar and it was connected with Ecoli and lasted longer than cystitis
I have never had this before
Dr said it could be connected with having new partner after long abstinence from sex,and dryness,
I feel that is more like it, and not really worried about the scans i have to have, just hope i am right and nothing serious turns up
Having an internal scan on thursday but cant if this hasnt cleared by then

Thanks for all suggestions, went to my local chemist in case one had been faxed through after all. they said ring 111,
I rang 111 and within 30 minutes an out of hours Dr rang me back and said there will be one ready for you at you chosen chemist in 10 minutes
He said he could see which AB i had been prescribed and sent those, brilliant, didnt even need to go to A&E
