Advice on multi-vitamens/iron supplements for 3yr old

DS, 3 last week, has had one thing after another this year, starting with chicken pox at Christmas, and non-stop colds ever since. He's a really picky eater, and we're veggie. He does eat a lot of fruit though.

Anyone with experience in these things able to recommend an all round multi-vitamen? Also, should you just give them iron supplements or should you get their levels tested by a doctor? I have used Minadex in the past, but wasn't sure whether it should be used on a ongoing basis.

you need to be careful with iron supplements as it is very easy to overdose a child on them, so it is best to get tested first.

hm..would your child drink juices...if yes...maybe invest into a Juicer to make your freshly juiced Juices, with all those vitamins, enzymes and no additives...Juice gets much easier into our system then any fruit or veg we eat....and raw is the best way...
you can put "weird" veggies like fresh beetroot into a sweet yummy apple/carrots juice

dd has the chewy bassett multi-vitamin sweets. They are suitable from the age of 3

Furball · 03/04/2007 20:14

just check the ingredients for nasties like aspartame and other artficial sweetners.

can I just also say , that artificial produced vitamins really aren't as good as the real and true thing...i.e real food/juice...where possible

My children (7 and 4) have been taking the chewy multivitamins for over a year now and this winter they have had one cold each and that is it and that is the truth. Neither have had tummy bugs or anything which required the doctors....these were children that before the vits were ill at least once a month if not more.

They do eat lots of fruit, not so good with veg and so the vits are a kind of back up just in case they don't get everything they need. I really do swear by them and my kids are proof that they do help immune systems.
