Tonsillitis - GP or not?

I'm pretty sure that I've got tonsillitis. There's conflicting advice about going to the GP or not and only going to get antibiotics if I gets bad. This is my first experience of it so unsure whether to go to the GP or not or just see how it goes. Any advice greatly received!

I get it all the time, so sympathies. The doctor will only prescribe antibiotics if I have all three of: pus on tonsils, high temperature, and swollen glands, otherwise it's salt water gargles and alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen. I tend to get pus/glands but my temp is okay. Mine comes when I'm run down, plus I teach so my throat is a weak spot, and I only go to the doctor if I am absolutely desperate - about this time last year I ended up having to get an appointment at OOH it was so awful. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Judy, poor you with it recurring like that. I did end up going in the end but no antibiotics for now although a swab was taken. It is right they're not blasé with them though.

This is my first time having it; my tonsils are huge today and my uvula is so swollen it's almost touching my tongue. Fingers crossed it won't last for too long.
