My sick note has the wrong diagnosis!

Hey I've got a sicknote as I have tonsillitis (GP said it was and I've told work). Have self certified for a week and GP said he would give me a sicknote. Anyway I've gone to pick it up today and when I got home I realised it says I have laryngitis. Do I need to get another or can I just give this to work and say it's wrong?? I'm worried they might think I've lied!

I don't think it matters too much at least you have a note from a doctor and they know your not trying to pull a fast one
I've handed one in before that said I had one thing on it and turned out to be something else

Thanks I hope so!

Same thing isn't it?!

Migraleve · 05/09/2017 19:35

Why would your work think you were lying? More to the point why do you think the sick note is wrong?

HanutaQueen · 11/09/2017 16:56

Er no it really isn't the same thing

Tonsillitis is inflammation/infection of the tonsils. Laryngitis is inflammation/infection of the larynx. Both give you a sore throat (in different places in the throat) but if you went in for a tonsillectomy and they removed your larynx you'd have a rather different outcome

It should be the same thing as far as work is concerned. Although there are more complications associated with tonsillitis, the symptoms are broadly the same. Does the precise diagnosis really matter? I suspect this wouldn't be an issue if you don't draw anyone's attention to the discrepancy.
