Does this sound like appendicitis?

3 days ago I felt really bloated and had some diareah. Then yesterday I started with a niggling/sharp pain in the lower right of my stomach, near my hip area. I feel a bit nauseas but have eaten. I keep having to go to the toilet and it is loose. Does this sound like appendicitis? Or can IBS present in this way? I'm worried.

When I had appendicitis as a kid it didn't give me loose bowels. I remember being doubled over with pain that felt like continuous waves. Maybe give 101 a ring for some advice?

MrsChopper · 02/09/2017 17:40

Sorry, the correct number is 111

Honestly, no one can know from a mumsnet post, and appendicitis can present in many ways. If you are in severe pain please get medical advice!

doesn't sound like it. when i had appendicitis i was constipated and could not eat anything at all because i had no appetite. and I could not bend over to tie my shoelaces. you should still see your GP though.

Not sure how helpful this is but I rang my GP earlier this year when I thought DS had appendicitis. She said that if he didn't have a temperature (he didn't), then it wasn't appendicitis.

However, I would definitely ring 111 for advice in the first instance if you are worried.

My gp told me re appendix that if you can jump up and down- it's not appendix

I remember when I had it, I was vomiting

Passing surgeon here...none of us can tell you, in fact it can be a very difficult diagnosis that I still get wrong on occasion having seen the patient and with the benefit of blood tests etc.

Some people have diarrhoea with it, some don't. Temperature is often normal particularly in the early stages.

If you're concerned then ring 111. Likelihood is that you don't have it but no one can tell you that over the internet!

Thanks everyone. I rang 111 who referred me to the out of hours GP the next morning. He seems to think it's bad IBS and has prescribed Mebeverine that I have to take 3 times a day x
