Breast clinic appt

Hi all,

First post so please do bare with me. I am a mum of 2 boys 3&9. I am also 30 yrs old.
Past few months developed itching and rash to left breast which I self treated with E45 and other over the counter stuff.
Now fast forward 4 weeks now developed a lump which I thought was a spot or a cyst as it was large and under the skin. I watched it for about 3 weeks and it was still there a purplish colour and no change in size.
So I went to the GP who referred to breast clinic as he recommend all lumps to be checked out.
I have an appt next week Wednesday and dont know what to expect. However the lump as gone down slightly in size, still a very purplish colour on the left breast. Feel a bit silly going as I honestly believe its a small cyst that it's taking its time to budge!
Anyhu would appreciate your stories or advice if you have been through similar or been in this situation. Whether good or bad.
Thank you for reading. Xx

It does sound like a cyst, to me, as a layperson. But even if it is, the breast clinic would know the best way to shift it without causing damage to the breast tissue. If you've got a referral I'd say just go. I've been, unfortunately I was diagnosed with cancer but my symptoms were not the same as your's. I had a pronounced indentation and am now undergoing treatment. However all the staff have been very nice - as they are at the clinic. The tests were really not that bad.

I had an appointment yesterday I'm also in my 30s. The consultand will ask you a few questions and examine your breasts then likely send you for an ultasound to check it out. At our age they don't do mamagrams as the breast tissue is too dense to get a good picture. The sonographer who did my ultrasound told me I had a cyst there and then and drained it with a needle. It was thick pus that came out so she said it looked infected but mothing to worry about. Went back to the consultant who gave me a presciption and asked to see me again in a couple of weeks to be sure the infection has cleared up.

I was worried I might be wasting their time as my lump was getting smaller. But obviously not if he wants to see me again. Everyone was lovely and reassuring (unlike my GP who scared me as he was obviously concerned). Expect to be there a few hours waiting arround alot in between seeing different people. Your GP has refered you because they feel its worth you being checked out they wouldn't have if they thought it was a waste of time.
