Follow up appointment to Mammogram

I had a shooting, twisting pain in my right breast for a couple of weeks. Doctor thought nothing to be worried about but booked me in for a hospital check anyhow. Hospital check said probably nothing, maybe an infection or calcification(?) of milk ducts and to start taking starflower oil as it could be menopausal pain but shell refer me for a mammogram just to check. I had the mammogram and was told if I hear nothing for a week all is fine. Hunky dory. I am fairly relaxed as I think its nothing really and feel bad for wasting NHS time.

This morning I get a letter asking me in fror a mammogram again followed by an ultrasound breast scan and appointment with a consultant radiologist. I am shaking and cant stop cying and fearing the worst. Can anyone help talk me down?

Hi,

I've just had an appointment at breast clinic today for a lump, no mamagram done as too young, but it was diagnosed as an infection (by ultrasound and needle aspiration) I've been put on antibiotics and have to go back for a follow up appointment in a few weeks to check whats going on. As they were questioning an infection I wonder if it could be something like that rather than anything sinister.

You're bound to be thinking the worst, I think we all would be. Until you know exactly what it is, you will be very anxious.

At least they're looking after you properly and calling you back in, which is good. In the meantime, try and keep busy, do plenty of normal things and try and get out and do some nice things. This will help to keep you from over thinking everything.

I'm an ovarian cancer survivor so I know how awful it is waiting for tests and results but you can get through it. Flowers

Thank you both. I have calmed down now. Its hard not to worry even i am not generally a worrier.

Its interesting that the ultrasounf could pick up an infection. Hopefully its just that.

Pain has completely gone - typically.

I had a recall after a recent mammogram ... I was fine until I was on bed and the nurse said " oh we are just waiting for the consultant " luckily she arrived soon and after a quick ultrasound confirmed it was a cyst and drained it then and there.
She said that most lumps are just lumps !

pinkdonkey · 25/08/2017 20:35

The ultrasound picked up fluid, she thought it was a cyst, then when she drained it it was all pus, so infection. I also had pain initially too which then went away. My lump was very hard so my GP didn't think it was a cyst.

I have no lump though and the pain is gone. Hopefully if it is or was an infection I just have to take some pills to stop infection.

although as a sporner I am very jealous of your cyst Trumpton Blush

liquid you can come and watch the next one ! Dr said it was a tough one and had to rummage around with the needle a bit ! Made my eyes water ! Gunk was a good colour though ! ( fellow sporner )

I have multiple cysts - lots of small ones which made it look like a larger anomaly on the mammogram. Weirdly on the breast that I didnt have pain on. Too small to drain sadly.

Thank you all for the reassurance while I was panicking.
