Is Provera the same as Noresthisterone?

Hi
Does anyone know if Provera and Noresthisterone are the same thing? I went to my GP to ask for Noresthisterone as I don't want my period to come when I'm on holiday and she said they now prescription e Provera instead. That's fine, I took the prescription but now realise she's only prescribed 10 days which isn't long enough. I can't go back to the GP before my holiday but I can buy Noresthisterone online.

So can I buy 7 days supply of Noresthisterone, take the Provera as prescribed for 10 days then switch to Noresthisterone for a week? Or will that not work, in which case I need to shell out for 3 weeks worth of Noresthisterone.

Any advice welcome as I've tried to Google and am still none the wiser!

They are completely different progestogens- a quick google will show you that.

You ought not to mix them, no. It may work, but you may get side effects from taking different ones.

You ought not to need 3 weeks worth of either. Have you had that amount before? I thought the usual dose was 10 days.

I'm surprised you can buy it online- is this from a UK supplier without a copy of your prescription? It's a powerful hormone with potential serious side effects. Who is selling it online this way? Hmm

Hi Polly thanks for replying. I used to be prescribed Noresthisterone by m GP for period problems, and took it almost continuously for 3 years running a few years ago.

The reason I need more than 10 days now is that my periods are irregular, so I'm not sure exactly when it will start. My period is due 2 days into my holiday but could easily start 3 or 4 days either side of that. So I need to start taking the tablets 3 days before the earliest date my period is likely to start in order to delay it. In other words, a week before my holiday starts. If I do that, I'll run out a few days into my holiday so my period will then start during my holiday. I flood so badly on the first couple of days that it will ruin the holiday so I need to make sure that doesn't happen.

I've never had any side effects from the Noresthisterone before but the GP prescribed the Provera this time. I've not ordered it online before but Lloyds Pharmacy sell it online without a prescription here so I presumed that was ok? From what you say it would be best not to mix the two so I will just go ahead and buy it from Lloyds. Hopefully it will do the trick!
