On Holiday Feeling Rough

Hi everyone,

I am on a long awaited holiday in Portugal and am currently in bed feeling awful while my husband and three young kids are downstairs. It started yesterday in the supermarket when I had very bad stomach cramps out of the blue and then awful diarrhoea (thank god for toilet in the supermarket).

Felt woozy and sick up until around 8pm when I suddenly felt fine / back to normal and had nice supper and a glass of red wine. Slept well but then woke up feeling rough again, very dizzy and sick again and had another bout of diarrhoea. Now just feeling dizzy/spinny and washed out/tired and generally unwell.

It doesn't feel like a normal tummy bug as I am hungry and want to eat - also have not been sick. And nobody else has it.

Also wondering about vertigo but don't think that comes with diarrhoea and cramps?

Anyone have any ideas? Desperate to feel well so i can enjoy my holiday!

Some bugs do seem to come and go...and come back again. I had one last year. Got better, went on a day out feeling fine, then was laid up for another 24 hours.

It's possible your system just wasn't quite ready for normal food so the dinner and wine set it off again. When you next feel like eating, try something plain and starch-based like plain rice or toast. The dizziness might be due to the dehydration, so drink plenty of water. If that doesn't set it off again, start eating a bit more. And don't stray too far from a toilet for a day or two, just in case.

If that doesn't help, or you get worse, then it's time to wonder if it's more than just traveller's tummy.

Thanks Badgers. I am wondering if it could be hormonal? I am still breastfeeding my 6 month old but feel like my body is trying to crank back into gear again and have a period. Or is that nuts?!

Flat coke for you - works wonders when you need perking up

Avoid all food for 24 hours and flat coke as previous poster said.

Get better soon x
