I can't find my flipping coil strings!

I have the Mirena coil (since December) and was just trying to find my strings but they've disappeared, again!

A couple of months ago I couldn't find them so went to the GUM clinic and they were found as soon as she put the speculum in. She also had a feel of my cervix as when I was feeling I found a lump. She couldn't find it and concluded it must have been a spot that popped. After this exam I bled as much I would for a period for about 5 days.

A few weeks ago DH & I had sex (doesn't happen often!) and after that again I bled for about 6 days afterwards, concluded it was my period.

I've been having odd feelings like flutters, really sore boobs (DD is bf so put it down to that), weight gain (prob too much chocolate), my skin is awful and hair is really greasy, negative pregnancy tests.

Anyway I just want you all to tell me that I'm being stupid and worrying over nothing!

Side effects of the coil maybe?

dementedpixie · 20/08/2017 10:59

Probably just the coil. My strings have been awol for years but scans and xrays showed it was still in place. I did need a general anaesthetic to get it removed so I'm not looking forward to that!

Don't worry about the strings, whoever inserted it will find it.

Give some thought as to whether it's the best contraceptive option for you though. Infrequent sex is easily managed with a condom.

The hormones can make the cervix more friable and more prone to bleeding

Mine came out through very heavy periods. Good luck with mirena I felt dreadful with it. It doesn't suit everyone.

Those are all side effect of hormonal contraceptives. As for the strings disappearing-you cervix will change shape throughout your cycle and this may cause difficulty infibdong the strings. It happens to me quite often. They can also get 'lost' in the folds around the opening of the cervix.

Thanks everyone.

The side effects (sore boobs etc) starting in the last few weeks just made me wonder as I've had it since December!

Unfortunately I wouldn't want to risk going without contraception as DH doesn't "like" condoms (refuses a vasectomy though, of course Hmm).

Do you 'like' bleeding, sore boobs, weight gain and bad skin and greasy hair?
I get the consequence is all on your shoulders but a condom doesn't sound like a big ask.
