sibling has 'pre-glaucoma'

I apologise in advance that I know nothing about eye problems, hence the need to ask.
My sister has been told she has 'pre-glaucoma', high pressure something (I can't remember the correct term). Apparently glaucoma can be hereditary. Neither parent has glaucoma (macular degeneration and cataracts) so should I be arranging a thorough eye examination for myself? I had laser eye surgery a few years ago so haven't been for an eye test for some time.

Intraocular hypertension can be referred to as pre-glaucoma and yes you do have a higher risk of getting it if you have a sibling with glaucoma, about 2-4 x that of anyone else.

A regular eye examination will detect glaucoma through a combination of a pressure reading (usually a little puff of eye blown at the eye, or a probe on a anaesthetised cornea), visual field test (pressing a button at little flashing lights and also the optometrist looking at the optic nerve head.
I would also recommend visiting a practice that has an OCT as they are exceptionally good at monitoring changes to the optic nerve head.

You need to mention that you have had laser surgery as it causes a falsely low IOP reading.

Thank you underneath.
I used to have regular eye tests as I was short sighted. I always went to Boots, they seemed pretty thorough. I'll book a test.
