Oedema- aka my temporary cankles.

I have recently started to get very swollen legs (ankles mainly) and face which it seems is oedema. Lots of advice online suggests walking and drinking a lot of water. The problem is I get it most when I have walked a lot, it is hot and I usually drink buckets of water a day. I am 49, on HRT.

Just came back from 3 days in a hot place. I day of walking in the heat. My legs and feet were huge (made worse by the plane) and I couldn't see out of 1 eye with the swelling.

When I got home I had blown up all over and put on a stone. The first 6lbs went overnight, then 4lbs.

Any ideas? I have low blood pressure and google told me oedema is a sign of high blood pressure.

Do I need the doctor? Some pills? Any ideas?

I don't want to not be able to travel and look at places of interest. Also, back at work on Monday my face was still swollen like I had been punched in both eyes. Not a good look.

Help!

Yes, doctor.

Ice packs and icy foot bath meanwhile.

You need to go see a doctor, this could be something else. It certainly shouldn't be this bad.

I just can't understand why you wouldnt get to a doctor the second you got home. Hopefully it is nothing but you can't just ignore it.

Definitely doctor. I got it in ankles, legs and face when I developed kidney disease. Please don't ignore it!!!

OK. Thanks. Will make an appointment as it was pretty bad but I don't want to waste time. Will report back.

Nice one Rose. I put it off for ages as I thought I was being a time waster and wish I'd gone sooner. I'm sure it'll be something much more straight forward for you but it's much better to be on the safe side.
