Colonoscopy

I have a appointment for a colonoscopy on Thursday and I am terrified. I am sitting here feeling sick I can't sleep or eat and I am crying. I am a 56 year old woman who has anxiety and depression. I have to start the moviprep tomorrow and try to be sick just thinking about it. I am having sedation which I have had for dental work but have been told it's not the same and won't be out as I am at the dentist. Please can anyone help I want to cancel.

Dh did the colonoscopy without painkillers or sedation. It just felt a bit crampy. According to the nurse it actually isn't necessary if you can relax during the procedure but most people are a bit too scared to relax so they offer them everything. You'll be fine with the sedation. Moviprep is a bit much to drink and it doesn't taste nice. Stay close to the toilet.

I'm guessing it will be nearly over now. The nurses here were extremely gentle and reassuring, I hope it was like that for you too and the anxiety was not too bad.

How are you op?

Peacon · 17/08/2017 18:05

Glad yours went well mostinept. The nurses here were lovely too I was so anxious but it was fine a bit uncomfortable at times but no pain. The took a sample and confirmed I have diverticular disease. I'm glad it over and I feel great now.

Well done both of you, you have now joined the (not very) exclusive band of mm colonoscopy survivors and are there fore fully qualified to offer calming and helpful advice and support to others facing their first! Especial praise to peacon for overcoming your anxiety, I hope the diagnosis proves helpful. Best wishes to both, enjoy your non prepping evening.

Thanks viques, good to join those that have got through it!
And yes, well done Peacon, I hope your diagnosis is useful. Mine was all clear but as I have a strong family history of bowel on both sides this will be a regular thing for me 😂

Well done Peacon! You can join in reassuring the next person, in about a months time. I hope the results are helpful.

Bowel cancer, that should have said.
