glucose blood test - is it always fasting?

I need to book my pre endocrinology appointment blood test. On the form is TSH and FT4, plus renal and bone (pretty standard). There's also a scribble which I think says glucose.

I have an endocrinology problem but not diabetes melitus. Fasting isn't mentioned on the form and I've been unabe to reach anyone in the endo's office so I presume this is just a random glucose test - is this a thing or is glucose only tested after fasting?

You need to ask. I've had many and some I've been told not even to drink water. Some are no food 4 hours prior others 'as you come'. Keep chasing dr or call the lab ...

It can either be fasting or postprandial but that's generally to understand the effectiveness of insulin.

I would call and double check.

I called the centre where I usually have my blood tests done, they said they couldn't offer any advice. The Secretary of the endocrinologist seems to have disappeared (after forgetting to arrange my mri scan for before my endo appointment). The main switchboard at the hospital can't put me though to phlebotomy so I've hit a brick wall with who to ask. The appointment offered is at 11.30am so I think I'll fast anyway just in case.

You should do our TSH/FT4 as early as possible in the morning after a twelve hour fast (you can drink water), so I'd go for fasting and make an early appointment.

I have found doctors and hospitals very lax at giving correct instructions and seemingly unconcerned by the number of people they then have to turn away.

Thank you time. I'll try to get an earlier appointment but it's not a huge problem because if I eat breakfast, it's never until I've been up for at least 3 hours. Going that long without a morning coffee may be an issue though Shock
