I want to see a private gp and wondered how does it all work ? I hate my regular gp and feel I'm not getting appropriate treatment . Does a private gp speak to my own gp or is it a totally separate consultation that is private between me and the private gp ? I have a terrible pain that comes and goes in the top of my thigh and I feel like my regular gp is just trying to hide it with anti flammotries and I want it properly investigated . I have the money to go private so that's not a problem . I just need to know how it all works ??

Ring up Bupa or some other company, or look at their website.

Haven't seen a private GP but have seen consultants privately several times. When you arrive at the hospital or whetever you're seeing the doctor, they will ask you to fill in a form with your name, address, and details of GP practice.

After the appointment the private hospital will feed back to your GP that you have been seen and any further recommendations for treatment so that all your notes are in the same place. In my experience, your regular GP won't do anyything with the information apart from file it. It's just like seeing another GP in an emergency when you're away from home, or attending a walk-in centre out of hours.

Would it not be better to go to a private musculoskeletal hip (osteopath, chiropath, physiology)?
They may able to diagnose. If not, they can write to GP proposing investigations....
