Split on ball of foot

I noticed yesterday that my foot was really sore when walking and on inspection can see I have quite a deep split in the hard skin on the pad of my foot. Today it is even worse, sore and itching and am finding it difficult to put my weight on it.
Am putting CCS cream on the hard skin but that won't actually heal up the split will it? Will a compeed plaster help or even just a normal plaster? I'm worried with it being under my foot it may become infected.

I had this 4 weeks ago!!! It was a really deep crack and so painful, I too was worried about infection. I bought and used the compeed 'second skin' corn plasters and this completely did the trick - kept in cushioned and clean whilst it healed. I had the plasters on for only a couple of days before it was fine again

Thanks Pickle. I wasn't sure whether to use compeed as a crack is different to a blister but I guess it's to protect the skin either way.
It's been really sore today, have been walking on the side of my foot to avoid the pressure. Will get some compeed plasters tomorrow.
