rash on face - any suggestions to clear this up?

My dd aged 2.5 has had a red rash round mouth and nose for what seems like weeks. HV tells me it is cold weather and will clear up on its own but is now starting to bleed and skin is flaking off. So far I have been reccomended E45, sudocrem, vaseline and savlon but nothing is working. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Sounds a bit severe for chapping

You might be right - so any suggestions? Or should I just go to the doctor?

go to the doctor

ds had this problem for a while and we needed steroid cream to clear it up but what helped in the meantime was switching to a gentler washing powder (Filetti - recommended by Enid) and making sure his mouth was as dry as it could be (because he's a thumb sucker so it was often wet around his mouth). But to get to that stage, you probably need to clear up the inflammation/bleeding so I'd go and see the doctor (also to rule out an infection etc.).

I think it is very much the time of year for this sort of thing!

How is he today?

Thanks for your posts - will go to dr (am now feeling guilty for having not gome before - just looked at some new year photos and realised she has had problem since then). She sucks thumb too so is difficult to keep it dry. Out of interest, foxinsocks, why would different washing powder help as it is round her mouth not under clothing?

I think it was because his pillow, sheets and duvet were rubbing on his mouth too at night iyswim
