Blood test raised platelet count ??

I've been asked to return in 8 weeks to retest but I'm worried as my blood results for anything have always been normal and I've never had a phone call to discuss them before. I went for vaginal swabs taken as I am experiencing pain and random irregular stop and start bleeding instead of periods. I asked for a blood test as I'm so exhausted all the time.
Is raised platelet count anything to worry about? I just worry 8 weeks is a long time to find out if there's something wrong that in that time could have got worse.

Slightly raised platelets is a very non-specific result. Almost anything can put your platelets up - from infections (e.g. passing viruses you were barely even aware of) to exercise to stress. There are other things as well but - in the overwhelming majority of cases - it's a matter of platelets going up as a reaction to a temporary insult.

Your GP is just being cautious by wanting to document a "normal" platelet result. If s/he were actually worried that it represented something sinister, you'd be off for a scan or at least a repeat blood test in a week. The test in 8 weeks is expected to return a normal result and certainly shouldn't be something to worry about.
