Embarrassing Problem - TMI Alert

Hi - this is really embarrassing and I'm so going to namechange after this.

Basically, I had my period this week (and also started on the Pill but this isn't relevant, I think). It had eased off a lot by yesterday so I inserted a regular tampon at about 6 and went out for some drinks. Many drinks.

So I got home and I tried to take the tampon out but couldn't find the string. I had a feel around inside this morning and couldn't find anything - but did get a finger full of blood.

Now, I might have taken it out at some stage last night but I don't remember for sure. I reached up pretty far and can't find anything. Also, the blood makes me think there's nothing there.

Since this morning I've started to bleed again - not particularly heavily and it might because I'm on Cerazette now. But anyway, the blood is coming out so I'm assuming again that the tampon was taken out last night.

I inserted another tampon and it's gone in fine.

The question is - is it possible that the original tampon is still up there somewhere? I wouldn't have been bleeding enough for it to be full and I seriously can't feel a thing.

It is possible its still up there. It will begin to small terrible if it is.

The safest advice is probably go to a GUM clinic or somewhere and let them have a look.

If I was you, in my drunken state, I would've removed it as I would of anticipated a mega snooze after all the drink.

elevenclips · 04/08/2017 17:47

You should get it checked. You don't want an infection.

OzzyOsbourne · 04/08/2017 17:59

No smells so far at all. I just thought that if blood is coming out then the old tampon can't still be in... and I did have a proper root around Blush

I have to look after my son tonight so can't go anywhere until at least tomorrow afternoon.

It unfortunately feels pretty much the same as body tissue once you start rooting, it's only the smell that convinced me to keep hunting. Get on your hunkers and bear down and have another root. Blood is possible as it has a limit for absorbing fluids not just blood and can reach it quickly if left a while

WeShouldOpenABar · 04/08/2017 18:04

The smell takes a while to surface Envy boak

OzzyOsbourne · 04/08/2017 18:10

Oh God, I'll be so embarrassed if I have to go to the doctor.

WeShouldOpenABar - did this happen to you? how long was yours in for? And did you find it through rooting eventually? Sorry if too personal.

The smell takes a good few days. I ended up realising what it was, could not get it out and went to A and E. I had to have gas and air to have it removed because I got myself so worked up. The smell when they removed it was revolting Blush Had been there about 8 days .

LuluJakey1 · 04/08/2017 21:03

They weren't embarrassed at A and E - said they deal with 2 or 3 every day.

CricketYawnYawnYawn · 04/08/2017 21:06

If you can feel your cervix then you can be pretty sure nothing's in there. As someone else said if you squat and bear down it will be easier.

ToothTrauma · 04/08/2017 21:08

This happened to me. I was absolutely SURE it must have come out, but after a few days I could smell something terrible. I could never feel it though. In the end it came out while I was in the shower after six days Shock the smell was death itself. I'm very lucky I didn't developing TSS.

Please get yourself checked out Brew

amermaideindesguise · 04/08/2017 21:14

better going to get it checked to be on the safe side

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 04/08/2017 21:18

I've had this before after a drunken night and couldn't find it so figured I'd removed it. Definitely hadn't. Only realised as I was not getting as much discharge as I would normally at around that time. I had to properly bear down and root round at the same time and did get it eventually. I nearly died at the smell and am forever grateful I didn't get tss or similar. I now use a mooncup!

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 04/08/2017 21:40

Make a GP appointment and get it checked out.
Don't be embarrassed, these things happen and better safe than sorry.
Your doctor has almost certainly removed less appropriate items from people in their time!

Did you use an applicator one? I have used a brand I think Libra so not sure if the same in UK maybe they are li let's applicator ones. There were the compact type. I found that sometimes the tampon still stayed inside the applicator. I only found out as I was bleeding not long after putting it in. I checked in the bin & the tampon was still inside. I found it happened a few times with that brand so stopped using them. I just use the Original Tampax now.

OzzyOsbourne · 05/08/2017 10:47

It was a non-applicator. Still no smell and am bleeding. Will see how it pans out later. Thanks everyone!

Have a long soak in the bath and the water will make it heavy if it's still in there and easier to feel if it's in there still.

OzzyOsbourne · 05/08/2017 10:55

Good idea!

This happens all the time. It honestly isn't embarrassing. Truly. Healthcare providers see this a LOT. Seriously no biggie. 💜💜
