Panic-stricken about DM's lump

My DM told me today that she has a 3cm breast lump. She's awaiting a breast clinic appointment (which she will get within 2 weeks of seeing her GP - so a week on Friday perhaps?)

She's 74 this month, but she's 'young', fit and healthy. She's never had anything really wrong with her.

Googling this size of lump and her age has freaked me out! I know I shouldn't have looked but I couldn't help it. I read that breast cancer in women of this age is really bad.

Does anyone know anything about this in a woman of her age? Especially the size? 3cm seems so big.

I can't imagine life without her and feel like a child right now, despite the fact that I'm actually middle-aged!

If its any consolation my nannan had breast cancer at 75 and she has recovered perfectly well. Her lump was quite large and she had radiation. I had heard they grow quite slowly when you are older but this maybe wrong.

I know she is still on pills as now its 10 years post treatment rather than 5 now.

Thank you Lolly
