Weird spotting while breastfeeding

DS2 is 12 weeks and for the last four days I have had a little bit of brown spotting (more this morning, and mixed with cervical mucus) on waking up and then nothing for the rest of the day. Does anyone know what this could be or if I should be worried?

It looks a bit like the spotting I had during pregnancy with DS1 -- very old blood, sort of flakey. I definitely am not pregnant again (!), and wasn't expecting my periods to return for a while (didn't for 7 months last time, and I had cut back a lot on feeding at 6 months). Also this doesn't look at all like a period. Very light but a little more each day. I have also had a kidney infection last week, which was treated with antibiotics, but that's gone now. Should I see GP or is it just going to be written up as "hormones readjusting"? (Curious about which ones, if so, because I have also been feeling grumpy and PMS-ish.)

Its probably your periods coming back but not a 'proper period' I bottle fed DS1 and it was 12 weeks when my period arrived. I suspect with you breastfeeding its lighter as naturally the womb lining doesn't thicken as much so in theory you don't conceive for a while.....but everyone knows breastfeeding isn't a guaranteed contraception so there's no reason you cannot have a normal cycle
