Genalised itching. Driving me insane.

I got four hours sleep the night before last and the sum total of two hours sleep last night. I'm going out of my mind.

Basically, when I'm in bed, I'll feel itchy on my arm, seconds later on my leg, then my head, my foot, my hand, my back, my shoulder, my tummy and so on and so on. As a result I can't fucking sleep!!!!

I'm prescribed Piriton nightly. It didn't work. At 3am I took a cetirizine hydrochloride. Didn't work. About 9am took a Loratidine.

I've booked a GP appointment but it's not until the blooming 8th of August.

What in God's name can I do to relieve it in the interim? The various antihistamines are not working. I'm going out of my mind with the itch and lack of sleep. It doesn't seem to affect me when I'm up and about.

I have no rash. It's a crawling itch under my skin which I feel may be more neurological than medical.

Any suggestions?

My mother had similar when she was going through menopause, found out it was something called formication (not a typo for fornication Grin).
With her it was caused by hormone changes and got better as her body adjusted to lower estrogen level. Can happen with drug withdrawal as well as other causes.

I was going to ask if it could be pregnancy related?

IdoHaveAName · 28/07/2017 19:03

Definitely not pregnancy related. Could be hormone related. I'm 39 and getting odd periods. It's enough to drive you insane. Formication. Yes, I'm starting to imagine I've fleas or something at this stage!

Just had a bath and lathered myself in baby oil. I know it's not going to help as the itch is not ON my skin but I'm desperate at this stage.

Hmm Medeci may be right then? Maybe get a check up at the docs especially if your periods gone a bit odd as you say. Wish i could offer better advice. Good luck!

Hello, just wondered if you had had any blood tests recently because generalised itching can sometimes be a symptom of liver problems.
