Horizontal lines on big toes

DD (who is a teenager) has had horizontal lines on her big toes since sometime last year, they also looks like they're flaky which the lines are. Her toe nails have always been very hard to cut, even after soaking them for 20 mins tonight. This time while I was struggling to cut them, about 5mm just been to fall off.

Any ideas what could be causing these? Her school shoes are always measured, she only has one pair of boots and her trainers are slightly too big (she's 2/2.5 and they're a 3) and she says there's no pressure on her toes from any of them. I think her diet is okay, always a wholegrain cereal, has salad, cooked veg, protein with lunch/dinner etc. She says she feels healthy, I've no other health concerns.

Fungal infection?

ifonly4 · 29/07/2017 19:06

I phoned on Friday and amazingly got a doctors appointment yesterday. Doctor firstly thought trauma, but we've more or less ruled that one out. I need to get a sample to rule out/confirm a fungal infection. I almost hope that'll come back positive and in time her nails will be easier to cut as both of us really struggle.
