I appear to have an ingrown big toe nail!

Hurts like hell and swollen

Do I contact GP or Nurse or go straight to a podiatrist?

Straight to a podiatrist if you want it sorting before the weekend! Actually, I'd go straight to a podiatrist anyway.

Good luck.

I have an ingrown toenail that comes and goes. I generally just leave it to grow out, perhaps cutting a small V into the middle to relieve pressure, and soak it every day until the skin is soft enough to gently push back away from the nail. It's normally better after a few days.

Podiatrist if you want it doing properly

However, I'm one of those people that just cut the nail straight across at the top, then snip down the side as far as I can, get a pair of tweezers to it and yank the offending bit of nail out. File the corners so they're gently rounded and breath in relief that it's not digging in anymore. If it was particularly buried then I give it a good spray with savlon spray (stains yellow but cures most scratches, scrapes and ingrown nails).
