E-Coli

So here's a new one for me. I went to the doctor feeling like I maybe had a water infection, she said I haven't. Some swabs were taken and she phoned me today to say that they have shown up E-coli in the vagina ConfusedSad She wants to give me antibiotics, of which I am allergic to at least 3 types. I have tried googling and nothing really comes up? Will it go away on its own or do I need to take the antibiotics? How did E-coli get there?! I always wipe front to back, don't use scented soaps etc.

I have seen things about pro biotics - so you take them orally or do they mean things you put up there BlushHmm

Being a woman sucks sometimes Grin

I'm not entirely sure but I am pretty sure that ecoli is the common bacteria present in UTIs. It's naturally occurring in the gut I think. Sorry I'm not a huge amount of help! Plus I've only seen pro biotics which are oral I think?Smile

Thank you for replying. Do you think the dietary probiotics that you can take orally go that far down? I always thought they were for the bowels?

Ecoli can be picked u in contaminated foods, normal social contact . I was told this by my GP. It was horrible OP and I sympathise... never want it again!

Yes I had e-coli in my urine after giving birth - so they gave me anti biotics as a precaution. I was fine.
They said to me "you must wipe front to back when you go to the loo" as if I were 5 years old and weren't already doing this anyway!
Hmm
Don't worry OP it could happen to anyone!

Greensiren2014 · 27/07/2017 20:19

Not too sure for the prebiotics - I'd err on the side that they won't do any harm but if I've had a UTI I've been fine on the ABs.

I think for UTIs and ecoli present in a urine sample would suggest that it'd be more increase of water etc Smile

Nope the ecoli isn't in my water, it's actually from a speculum swab taken from inside up by my cervix 🤔

I have never heard of ecoli being "up there" before Shock
