Hi

I think I may have fibromyalgia?

My symptoms are

Regular ( daily) pain - hips, knees, neck, shoulders, under shoulder blades

Stomach ache

Headaches - eyes have been tested and are fine. No obvious pressure behind eyes

Stiffness

Nausea

Dizziness

Tiredness- I sleep for long periods of time, fall asleep on sofa. Wake up like a zombie Sad. Rarely feel refreshed after 8 hours sleep

Feel like I'm sensitive to certain lights, for example supermarkets. I feel exhausted after a shop, legs feel like lead, body feels light and floaty.

Anxiety/ mild depression

Will a doc take me seriously? I've been feeling particularly rubbish for about 9 months but have suffered with pain for years. It's just suddenly dawned on me that maybe all my ailments are connected

Anyone else suffer like this?

If your GP doesn't take you seriously change your GP! A rheumatologist or neurologist are the usual referrals for fibromyalgia so you could ask your doctor if it's appropriate for a referral to either/both. You could also ask for a referral to a pain clinic who tend to support and manage your symptoms (through physio, CBT, pain management programmes etc) rather than diagnosing conditions. Good luck, hope you can feel a bit better soon.

All those symptoms sound very much like what I have OP,and I was diagnosed as having fibromyalgia nearly 2 years ago. I was attending a rheumatology appointment (have got osteo and rheumatoid arthritis) and the consultant was asking about my general health and any other problems I had. When I described how I'd been feeling for the last 3 - 4 years, she was pretty sure that I've got fibromyalgia. There is no definitive test for it,no blood tests or scans that will prove that you DO have it,the doctor has to make a diagnosis based on a check-list. As Synecdoche said,a rheumatologist or neurologist are the usual referral for Fibromyalgia. So do see your GP and ask about this. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
