I attended an appointment with my dad today who has had chronic back pain for nearly 30 years. He began an episode of spasms and pain in January and it has never fully resolved itself, which is unusual as it usually does with rest and medication.
He had an MRI recently and was told there was nothing serious on it, he was then referred to a surgeon who today discuss options such as steroid injections or referral to pain clinic.
As he was summarising the appointment on his dictaphone he said my dad needed blood tests for Myeloma screening and it's got me a bit panicked.
My dad didn't pick up on it but I work in healthcare and so I did. My dad has major health anxiety and so I didn't bring it up with the surgeon then. But now I'm considering his symptoms I'm very concerned he might have myeloma
Would any of this have shown up on his MRI? Would the surgeon have discussed this with my dad if he was seriously concerned about this or is it just standard procedure to go through the screening?
Hopefully someone can help.
