Cold sores.

Can someone please reassure me that a cold sore is not contagious BEFORE it makes an appearance? I know that they can be passed on through oral sex,and I am always very conscientious of this fact,I won't give DP a BJ if I have one and always make sure it is 100% gone before I do. But I developed a cold sore yesterday evening, which was about 30 hours after giving DP a BJ. This has never happened before, and now I'm stressing that it may have been 'lurking' and I've given it to him!

I thought they could shed the virus beforehand

It is technically possible to shed virus from the moment you feel 'tingle' (and I think actually at any time when you have no symptoms at all) but it's extremely unlikely and I also believe men are less likely to catch it than women via oral sex. He'd be as likely to have caught one around his mouth by now. Try not to worry and well done for being so careful otherwise.

Thanks for the reassurance Kiwi. I didn't start feeling a tingle until a good 30 hours after 'doing the deed',so my mind has been put at rest now.
