No longer able to tolerate alcohol - is it an age thing???

I have noticed in the past few months that if I drink a large glass on wine (or one and a half large glasses like last night) I wake up with a killer headache the next morning. And I mean a nauseating, throbbing, pounding headache which does not go away despite taking tablets etc...

I never used to have this problem, was able to drink one or two large glasses of wine at the weekend with no ill-effects.

Am I getting old? Are my drinking days over?? (not that I ever drank a lot anyway, perhaps a glass or two on a Friday night and again on a Saturday night)

I do think tolerance to alcohol does lessen with age, especailly if you don't drink as much as you used to (as in my case). I have found that drinking organic wine really doesn't cause the same kind of hangovers/headaches due to having less chemicals - maybe give it a try if you still want to enjoy a drink without a hangover.

I drink red wine very rarely now because I was getting an instant headache from it. Drink more white now, but my tolerance is lower - get quite giddy from one glass

I've had this too and I think it's because we don't get enough practise. I used to be able to drink any thing and cope the next day but now I can't drink any more than 1 small glass of wine without suffering the consequence of headache. I'm in Germany the land of great beer and had started to drink a glass of beer instead but now even that means me having a headache the following day!

Aha! So my options are - More practice (liking that one ) or switching over to organic wine.

Will try the organic option...

Was on the phone to dh yesterday morning telling him to never ever let me touch a drop of alcohol ever again!!

I think it's the lack of practice thing tbh. I used to drink a little bit every day and it never affected me. Nowadays, if I have a glass of wine it's a rarity and I'm pished!

I can't drink red wine at all. I use to have a couple of small glasses of wine a night but now I feel too tired the next day so I have decided that I am only going to drink when socialising (once in a blue moon!) and have swopped my wine for peppermint tea.
