Stabbing lower back pain

This my second post on this board in less than a week - I'm falling apart!

Yesterday (at work, sat down and at home, stood up) I had 4-5 instances of excruciating lower left back pain, it literally felt as if I'd been stabbed, it took my breath away. Each time it was one pain for a couple of seconds only but it made me catch my breath.

I've just had it again twice at work.

About 5 years ago I had terrible sciatica, but the pain was more continuous then and slightly higher in my back (I had ruptured/bulging disks at that point). It doesn't feel the same as that (although it was obviously a long time ago).

I have a gp appointment in a couple of days, so am definitely going to mention it, but should I see someone sooner? Is there anything I can do to reduce the chances of it appearing again?

Google tells me it could be anything from a disk issue, to endometriosis (unlikely, I've been scanned recently), to a kidney problem.

There are exercises on youtube you can do for lower back pain.
Very unlikely to make it worse & might make it much better.
Plus good habits to try to work on, like better posture.
