Have just seen this and really sympathise having had hayfever and sinus problems for years and been pregnant or bf for the past 7. after lots of different treatments the nasal washing has been the winner. i'm sure it can stop colds too as my children bring so many back from school and if i'm really vigilant and wash nose am and pm it has made all the difference. I originally bought a neti pot but found it too gentle. the nasopure sorts of forces things out depending on how hard you squeeze the bottle. you don't need the special salt, i just put in a spoonful of sea salt and very warm water. you have to learn to make the 'k' sound so your tongue closes the back of your mouth so you don't get the salt escaping and away it goes! get the tissues ready before you start and stand over the sink.

nasopure there are lots of articles on their website if interested.

I seem to have constant sinusitis in the winter - i was talking to one of the partners at work who also suffers from it & she swears by the ear candle thing - he dh is obviously a lot nicer thna mine - i fear that the temptation of holding a lighted candle in my ear ole may be too much.

confusedandignorant · 28/03/2007 23:34

can do same as neti pot thing using a teaspoon of salt in a pint of warmish water, put some in cupped hand and snort a few times, make sure you are in the bathroom as about five-ten minutes all the gunk comes down and you feel fantastic, been used for years the proper name is a nasal douche

talcyone · 29/03/2007 08:13

The ear candles proved to be too much for dh,kathH,he did light them, then layed on sofa and left me to it!
My ears are all crackly and tickly this am,i spose this must be a good thing?
Confusedandignorant, didn't have any gunk come out of nose, although it may be loosening, will persevere

Do feel sort of empowered though...
why didn't i know about this before?

Why is there no gunk coming out of my nose....please?

confusedandignorant · 29/03/2007 22:52

You get lots of gunk if you have end of cold type sinus problems, otherwise just a bit and usually a clearer head,

talcyone · 30/03/2007 08:01

Thanks,will keep flushing!

Sorry - haven't read all of thread - so apolgies if this has already been suggested. Ear Candling - I have many clients who really benefit for this, some have suffered this condition for years and now with regular treatment they no longer suffer.

Let me know if you want anymore info.

Good luck X

pindy · 30/03/2007 08:43

Ooops just saw the post a few lines down from you!!!

Persevere with them.

noddyholder · 30/03/2007 08:56

Sleeping with those stick on things breathe clear(?) really helped mine as I used to wake up bunged up with a heady feeling even with antibiotics

sparklybits · 30/03/2007 10:29

sympathies to all suffering. i had an op to correct a deviated septum three years ago; unfortunately it didn't work and i had a similar op in feb - all sinus areas were v blocked.

the deviated septum exacerbates sinus probs so it's worth checking out and pushing for a ct scan from your gp - it shows up all sorts

it really makes you feel lousy doesn't it - even after my op there was so much gunk coming out - the consultant 'hoovered' each nostril for about 5 mins each. that was almost more painful than when i had the op. he couldn't believe the amount of mucus & discharge coming out. it was really impacted. i feel that i need it doing again as i already have that full feeling in my nose again. go back in two weeks for another hoovering session!

(sorry if this is waffly - its' meant to be helpful but i'm big hung up on possible bfp or just a particularly evil af)

talcyone · 30/03/2007 14:39

Thanks for all the advice
will buy some more candles and give it another try, thanks pindy.

Had clear mucus flush out this am with neti flush.

Can breathe really easily now,no obvious snot blockage.....but my head feels full of it.
Sparkly bits says hers was impacted, i wonder if mine needs someone to 'suck it out?'[scared emoticon]

I will keep going for a while, but there is so much discomfort, i will probably see gp again
