Red circle appeared on breast with lump underneath

It's the first time I've posted on here and I'm doing it through sheer terror. Last night I spotted a perfect red circle close to my nipple but on my breast tissue and underneath the skin I've found a lump. I've shown DH today and I'm going to make an appointment at the GP tomorrow. My mother died of secondary breast cancer last month so everyone will know exactly where I'm going with this. I'm trying not to panic - I had a cyst on my cleavage just short of two years ago but that was on top of the skin and this is under.

I've looked at other threads relating to breast lumps on here but I can't see any that mention the red ring. I'm hoping it's an infection or a cyst but I'm very scared.

I've no experience of the symptoms you mention, however I had to reply to say it's totally understandable how you are feeling, especially so soon after loosing your mum.

I'm so sorry this is happening, and that you have lost your mum. However, you are doing the right thing by seeing the GP, they are usually very quick to assess any changes to breasts, and refer to get everything checked out. I know how incredibly anxious I was after finding a cyst, and waiting for information. Our minds tend to jump to the worst possible scenario. Try to remember that most lumps found are not cancer.

Take care and I hope that you can get a GP appointment soon your fears are unfounded.

Thinking of you. 💐

I had a lump and red area on the skin just past the areola and it was an infection in the ducts.

Thanks for replying. I went to see my GP this morning who is pretty certain that it's an infection, partly because it's smaller today and there's a red shadow on my skin where it had been much redder yesterday. I have to take eight antibiotics a day for four days. but as a precaution (because I'm 37 and because of my family history) they're sending me for a scan.

That's good news💐 Hoping antibiotics clear it up soon and you are reassured by scan results. Good luck, and thank you for updating.
