Cough medicine for a 9mth old?

Can anyone recommend anything? DS has a hoarse cough, and he's coughing so much he's vomiting

can you sit him in the bathroom with the door shut while you let the hot shower run so that he gets to inhale some steam? It will do him more good than any cough medicine i think.

problem is our bathroom is enormous. i think it would take a week to be honest!

maybe could you hold him while gently leaning his head over a bowl? While he's asleep maybe?
Obviously you wouldn't be able to get his head right over it like if you were doing it for yourself but if you could get him to inhale any steam it would help.

The only cough medicine for under 12 months is basically just a sugar syrup. I tried it with my ds and it didn't help.

Lots of sips of water is probably best, and sleeping with the head raised a bit.
