My MIL is now staying with us because she dislocated her shoulder on Saturday. The hospital x-rayed it and have left it dislocated and sent her home with a simple sling. Saying that the treatment nowadays is just to leave it and see if it goes back on its own.
She has a follow up appointment at the fracture clinic on Friday.
She is 72 if that makes any difference.
From our reading online and watching of 24 hours in A&E, it seems like most places would try and pop it back in straight away. In fact the only things we can find online regarding not putting it back in are to do with the risks of leaving it dislocated for a long time.
Has anyone any experience of dislocations in older people and does this sound like appropriate treatment or should we be pushing for someone else too see her sooner? Also complicated by the fact that we don't live where she does so would have to take her to a different hospital near us. Would they even see us ? Or just tell us to go back to the original one?
Thanks in advance for any advice
