Tonsillitis after tonsillectomy

Fettuccinecarbonara · 09/07/2017 22:26

I had recurring tonsillitis right up to my early 20's when I had a tonsillectomy.

I'm now some 18 years on, and have tonsillitis again :(

To my horror I can see what looks like a (small compared to how it used to be) piece of tonsil on one side of my throat.

Is this just likely to be a swollen gland?

Ought I to make a doctors appointment?

Having your tonsils out does not prevent getting sore throats, even rotten bacterial ones.
To be fair the vast majority of sore throats (even tonsillitis) does not require treatment with antibiotics.
Gargle with something, get Difflam spray over the counter, take regular painkillers.

If you feel generally unwell (apart from the sore throat - unwell in yourself) or if it still gets worse after 2-3 days get checked out.

Are there white spots on what looks like tonsil? Tonsils have been known to grow back if not removed properly.

My ds had his tonsils out, if anything he has more sore throats now 😩

You might have a tonsillar remnant, or white spots on the back of your throat (pharynx), or glandular fever (viral).

If you feel ok in yourself, apart from the pain of your throat, then symptomatic treatment should be your first strategy. Usually, the first 2-3 days are the most rotten ones and things improve thereafter.
