Anxiety symptoms?

Hi...I am currently awaiting a ct scan for something a chest x-ray picked up on my right long. I have anxiety at the best of times and am struggling whilst waiting for the scan. Since the Dr told me something was picked up, I can't stop coughing. Do you think my anxiety can be to blame for this?

I have anxiety too so I know how draining it can be. Once someone tells you something that might indicate something, your anxiety can convince you of the worst. I can convince my self of stuff that isn't even true! It's probably just your anxiety and nothing to worry about. Your doctor will discuss what was picked up. Until then try not to worry hun. I know that's hard with anxiety!

Did the coughing only start after he told you something was picked up? If so, it's def your anxiety xx

I had a bit of a cough but since being told about the x-ray result, it has definitely got worse. Waiting and not knowing is so awful Sad x

That sounds awful OP, I would agree that it is just anxiety and wouldn't worry too much. It sounds as though the knowing that the scan has shown something has aggravated and magnified your anxiety, causing a cough since you know the scan was of your lungs. Hope it gets resolved soon it sounds very stressful Flowers

Do you cough in your sleep? If so it can hardly be anxiety related in your sleep!

Stardustandicecream · 10/07/2017 00:26

Anxiety comes from the unknown so try and get your tests done and results asap

It sucks not knowing, I was the same with my CT Scan a few months back. Keep getting onto them for the results xx

Evizza · 10/07/2017 10:28

Thanks for the replies. I haven't noticed coughing in my sleep so I can't be sure. I'm going to read up on anxiety breathing techniques today and see if they help whilst I'm waiting to go for the scan x

What was your ct scan like 27Harper? I have no idea what to expect x

Well my ct scan was only of my head. It's really not all that bad, it's painless and you shouldn't feel claustrophobic in a CT scan, you just lie down and go through this circle thingy. Also they recommend you take out any jewellery but I didn't and it was totally fine. Take them out for an MRI though! The results shouldn't take long, I got them on the same day actually. It should take maybe 10 minutes xx

Evizza · 10/07/2017 11:27

That doesn't sound too bad...fingers crossed the results don't take long. The doctor said about 2 days x

It's really not. Fingers crossed for you too hun 💟 xx

I've had a few Ct's and MRI's over the years and CTs are fine, all over very quickly.

It is awful waiting for tests then results. The only tips I have is distraction. Get out and about if you can, see friends walk the dog if you have one. Nothing stops the gut wrenching dread so just accept for the next couple of weeks you will feel nervous, try a bit of relaxation if possible.

Fwiw I do believe we can develop psychosomatic symptoms once the Drs mention they want to check something, I know on my last CT I had a pounding headache for days and was convinced I had brain mets but no it was clear and the headache had gone by the time I walked out of the hospital.

Deep breaths. Good luck Flowers

It was nothing. The consultant was shocked it had even been flagged and rang me tonapologise and give me the all clear. Unfortunately, even though it was clear, it did give me health anxiety which I still have to this day 🙄
