Is Tramadol stronger than Cocodamol?

5 weeks pregnant at the moment and I'm weaning off most of my medications. GP said that cocodamol was safer during pregnancy so I'll eventually be switched to 30/500 cocodamol. Just wondering how much stronger it is than tramadol? Thank you xx

Tramadol is much stronger.

Tramadol is way stronger, I take 60mg of codeine (cocodamol without the paracetamol) and I'm fine, 1 tramadol and I can barely function

Yes I believe than tramadol is a good bit stronger than Cocodamol. Almost double the strength if I'm correct?

Looks like 1 x50mg tablet Tramadol is over 3 times as potent as 30mg codeine

Tramadol well stronger!

I think the maximum codeine per day converts to 24mg of morphine, whereas tramadol converts to 40mg, so yes much stronger. Some people incorrectly state 80 like on the forum mentioned by keepondreaming

I was on the max dose of tramadol and was switched to 30/500 co-codamol as soon as I fell pregnant. I adjusted so much better than I thought I would although did have a week of sleepless nights. Congratulations on the pregnancy and hope everything goes smoothly for you 😊

Came along this thread by chance. I was the poster in the thread above who stated that max dose tramadol (400mg) is equivalent to 80mg oral morphine. This is what I was taught whilst working on a palliative care ward. I have just had a quick google on the subject and seems to be quite a variation in the figures quoted for conversion between 40-80mg. Royal College of Anaesthetists conversion chart works out as 67mg. This one converts at between 40 and 80mg.

Either way Tramadol is definitely stronger than codeine. Hope you feel better soon.

Wow thank you for such a detailed and informative answer. I'll also have a look at the chart you showed. Thanks again xx
