migraine / sinus pain, any one else suffer / help

I get occaisional migraines,and have siffered with sinusitis for 20+ yrs but over the past few years I get these weird syptoms, like a cross between the 2 (got one now)
Wake up with temperature, racing heart , feeling clammy, 'orrible migraine type pain, eminating from under right cheek bone, stand up- go dizzy, feel going to pass out - sit/ lie down, foul taste in mouth, realy realy painfull, thick head feeling, shivery & shaky, usualy lasts 24-36 hrs, slightly light sensitive, but not as bad as migraine, taken a wonderful cocktail of sudafed , paracetamol, ibru, nothing seems to have any effect except sleep... any ideas please

Is there any possibility you may have a tooth problem?, I had very similar symptoms for about two years, and I have just found out that one of my wisdom teeth is completely ingrown (laying across under the rest of the molars), just discovered by a radiography and for complete different reasons. I wish somebody could have checked this before, but nobody suspected it ;(

If nothing else worksm and you can not take more medicines without incurring in an overdose, put a towel in a bowl full of water with ice, applyit in te are that hurts and in the back of the neck, it may mask the pain while the medicines have effect.

But have it checked by the doctor too, if you are having full doses of ibuprofene per day, at least twice a week, chances are thet is the ibupr itself waht is cousing it.

Do you grind your teeth at night? I know people who have to wear a gumshield to bed to stop the resulting migraines. Maybe see your dentist?

thx, may be coincidental that the dentist just sent me for a full jaw xray- await appt yet

Where can you get a gumshield, if I still get so many migraines that's surely the cause

Chandra - any sports shop I imagine would stock them. Pretty cheap and you mould them to your own mouth after heating them. Not very attractive though!

You poor thing.

I have had mild sinus trouble for years on and off ( often aggravated by dust) and I find that garlic tablets help, I take them when I can feel the stuffiness starting, along with paracetamol and trying to keep my head upright. Not sure if it would help for symptoms as bad as yours though.
I think you need professional advice. Hope it gets better.

Your pain sounds very much like Neuralgia (someone I used to work with a couple of years ago, suffered from this and used to not be able to get out of bed with the pain as you describe).

I've been getting migrane since I was about 6 and tried every type of medication thats going. The doctor prescribed something called Sanomigran which I had to take every day and also Imigran for when I got an attack. They reduced the attacks to lasting 12 hours instead of 2-3 days. I also found that caffeine and alcohol triggered them so gave both up. Not easy, but at lot less painful than migrane.
Another thing that the doc had said was that if they didn't get under control then there was some sort of self administering injection, same idea as insulin pens, that they could try.
Thankfully I haven't had one for about 2 years but don't want to start taking caffeine and alcohol just incase.
Another thing that's a good painkiller is paracetemol and asprin tablets. Ask your pharmacy for them.

sound v similar, spent most of yesterday in bed or head in hand next to pc, interesting ly i was sent for mri couple of years ago for migraine & balence related trouble - negative, the dentist has said that teeth allignment prob's can couse tension to build in the face muscles, i 'm due to return to dentist shortly , will see what evolves,

Jema, I had really bad problems with migraines / facial pain for ages which turned out to be caused by grinding my teeth. I went to a dentist in central London who made me a little plastic thing to wear on my front teeth at night - it stops you grinding without being really big and horrible to wear like a gum shield. It's been absolutely brilliant - i only get headaches/ pain once in a blue moon now. I also spent a fortune having my teeth / fillings filled down to make my bite more even which the dentist thought would be a better long term solution though to be honest it made no difference at all - if I stop wearing the magic device, I get the pain back. I've got so used to it after 3 years I don't notice it though obviously it does look a bit weird - best to put it in once the light is off! If you're interested I'll find the dentist's name for you - it cost about £120 I think.
