Can answer a couple of these:

No anasthetic required

Takes about 15 mins if I recall correctly
Wasn't scary, just lying v still in a big faintly humming metal tunnel so a bit wierd but not "scary"

Can't answer other two, someone will be able to tho!

You are not anaethestised during this procedure.

I've had one and I wasn't anaethetised

however, I knew a child who had one and they were sedated (to keep him still) so I think the child procedures may be different to the adult ones

your child is having a CT scan (from GOSH)

My ds1 had an MRI scan when he was 2. He had a general anaesthetic (tho very short one - was conscious again within 15 minutes). Younger kids won't keep completely still so are usually anaesthetised, I think. You could always phone the relevant department (imaging dept?) at the hospital and ask what their procedures are.

Had one after suspected stroke - wasn't scarey - you don't need anyone else there and they play you music!!

Was a day out really and DH is having the results framed - the pictures of my hugely clever brain and outting them in the loo at our new abode!!

meggle, if he is sedated, he won't really know whether you're there or not - you'll be just as valuable to him when he's put under (if he is) iyswim xx

Meg - my dd has had several CT scans. She has waist to feet done and it usually takes less than 10 minutes. If you're pregnant you can't stay right there in the room with them but most CT suites have a large viewing area where the radiographer sits. I usually stand and watch from there.
