Hi all, I fell backwards off a knee high stool Saturday when I was trying to get a bag from storage. I hurt my back quite badly and spent most of the weekend horizontal and taking pill form voltarol I had left over from a previous injury plus cocodamol. Mon am it seemed worse so I got x rayed, nothing showed. This morning it's worse again possibly because the docs poked me so much. Ive just taken solpadol also saved from a previous thing! Shd I bother with gp or is this just "one of those things?" Will rest help or shd I just try to keep up and about as normal? Not sure if to seek more med opinion or if it wd just mean more pain from more poking?! Thanks!

I have two thoughts. First, after such a nasty fall you ARE going to be sore and it can get worse before it gets better. Last month, I fell in my tub HARD. I felt like I got run over by a truck. Nothing was broken but it sure felt like it was. What was crazy is that my right leg, which smashed down on the edge of the tub didn't start hurting until 4 days after, and on the fifth day a horrible bruise covered the back of my right thigh. So no, I don't think it's unusual for your pain levels to change even days after. Second, xrays don't always show a fractured bone, and an MRI is needed to find it. This happened with my daughter. I say give it several more days, and if it's still terrible, go back to the doctor. I hope you feel better! Flowers

I tripped on the stairs before Christmas and landed flat on my back on the wooden floor in the hall. But I got up and carried on. Within two hours I was locked in position in agony. I mean agony here.

When DH got home he took me straight to A+E. x ray and mri showed nothing. Doc said it was muscle damage and to expect excruciating spasms. And he was right! I couldn't get out of the bed without screaming, it was so awful. Given valium and hefty pain relief.

DH went to Boots a few days later and spoke to them. They suggested a back brace. OMG, the relief it gave was better than any drug. It supports your back and has ice gels in them too. Worth every flippin penny.

The one thing doc said was to keep moving. Even if it seemed impossible. So I did, around the house, then the garden, then to the shop. I felt like I would never walk properly again. But I did. It took three months.

No after effects. Back to normal. I feel your pain, and hope you get better soon.

Thanks all! I went to GP in the end who said I have it worse because I'm "slim" bless her, and therefore didn't have much to protect from the impact, plus from birth I have scoliosis and kyphosis. She said to stay home and rest for this week. In fact I've spent most of today sleeping, while I do that I don't need too many pills but getting up & back down again is painful. Good to know about the back brace! Hopefully since nobody poked my spine today I'll be a bit better tomorrow!
