Help - I can't control my hands!

lanouvelleheloise · 26/06/2017 14:02

With increasing regularity, my hands are suddenly going into a spasm. I can't move the affected hand at the time, and it feels almost locked in place. It's painful and I find the sensation quite distressing. Fortunately, it passes quite quickly - maybe 15-20 seconds.

I'm also really tired and forgetful lately and probably a bit more tetchy than usual too.

Should I see a doctor or is there something I can do at home?

I would absolutely see a GP. No one on here can diagnose you. Hope you're ok.

Are you on any medication?

Either way, I'd phone, explain your symptons and get an appointment in the next few days just to be on the safe side.

Speak to your GP.

lanouvelleheloise · 26/06/2017 14:09

No, no meds other than an inhaler!

Is it cramp?

lanouvelleheloise · 26/06/2017 17:06

I don't know if it's cramp. It does seem to be triggered when the muscles are tense, e.g. I'm holding something unusually. Last time was when I was holding both arms of my glasses in one hand and swinging them while chatting. But it doesn't feel like cramps I've experienced elsewhere - when I get it in my legs, it's tingly and painful. This is more a kind of frozenness.

My friend had this-lots of investigations but turned out to be stress. Disapeared with new job and new boyfriend

lanouvelleheloise · 26/06/2017 17:12

Definitely not stress! Don't get me wrong, I'm no Zen queen, and as stressy as the next person in stressful circumstances Smile. However, I am in an extraordinary position at the moment where I really have far less stress than I have ever had before in my whole life, and far less than the average person. (I realise how lucky I am to be able to say this, and how very temporary it is likely to be - but am enjoying it while it lasts).

I get this sometimes when I'm driving - I've always assumed it was cramp but you're right it's not tingly, pins and needles type cramp, it's just that my hands get stuck for a few seconds - v annoying!

SleepFreeZone · 26/06/2017 17:29

GP.

Yogagirl123 · 26/06/2017 17:36

Possibly sounds like a nerve issue, should be investigated, please see your GP, you may find a referral to see a Neurologist helpful and take it from there. Good luck OP Xx
